Now its time to wait..

So at this years Blizzcon, blizzard announced a bunch of new details about Diablo 3, the upcomming expansions for World of Warcraft and Starcraft II and some details about Blizzard DOTA.

One of the things that struc me the most, was the announcement of the "World of Warcraft Annual Pass", which basicly is a 12 month contract between you and blizzard, on your WoW subscription,

which then gives you:

Diablo III, for FREE!
Guaranteed Access to the World of Warcraft Mists of Pandaria expansion BETA!
In game mount for WoW, Tyraels Charger (with patch 4.3)

And now.. we wait!

After playing around with 3ds max for about 10 minutes, with some good help from a youtube tutorial, I was able to create this chess pawn.
And I must say, I am pretty pleased with the result! :)

Having completely forgotten about said community, I was cleaning up on my old storage harddrives, which includes the harddrive with software installations and came upon my Autodesk folder, containing the software I received through Autodesks student and teacher community program, where teachers and students can get free software!

All you have to do to particiate is simply to signup at http://www.autodesk.com/educommunity including selecting your place of education and when you are done.
After this, you can go on and download all of Autodesks premier applications, for free!

Having just upgraded my desktop (as posted previously) I thought why not give 3D design a go and try to download 3D Studio Max and play around with?
One thing is certain, with my new specs I do have som premium hardware, so this shouldnt be to any hinter! :)

Now I am just waiting for the installer to complete, so I can start playing around! Updates will come with any (non-ugly) result! :)

In a post on facebook from Lenovo, the technology giant promises a "big day from your friends at Lenovo".

This can only be good news, on new products. Maybe some new tablets for Win8?
A Windows Phone 7.5 powered device?
or just another range of state-of-the-art laptops?

In the next couple of hours, we will probably know! :)

New hardware!

Since I acationally play computer games, having to upgrade your computer hardware is needed once in a while..

And with all the upcomming titles (Battlefield 3, Star Wars The Old Republic, Diablo III aso..) it was about time to upgrade my now approx 4 year old hardware with some new pieces!

Before the upgrade, I was stuck with:
CPU: Intel Core2Quad 2.4ghz (Q6600)
RAM: 7.5 GB Corsair (8GB, but some trashed..)
GFX: ASUS nVidia GeForce 8800 GT ...
HDD: 2x 320gb SATA II HDD in RAID0
Optical: NONE (old burner crashed...)

extra storage: 3x 1TB SATA II HDD
so, from a gamers perspective it was about time!

My new rig:
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600k, quad core running at 3.4ghz
RAM: 16gb Corsair Vengeance
GFX: ASUS nVidia GeForce GTX 570
HDD: 3x 300gb SATA II in RAID0 (unfortnately didnt have more :()
Extra Storage: 3x 1TB SATA II HDD

this is indeed quite an upgrade! So far I have run Mafia II and World of Warcraft on MAXIMUM settings, without any lag.
The new Battlefield 3 beta, everything is on max settings, besides Anti Aliasing.

and it runs smooth!

So, after waiting for what seemed like an eternity, Windows Phone developers have now got the change to upgrade their phone software til 7720! aka: Mango RTM!

For approximatly two months, I have been running with the various beta builds, which have been put publicly available to registered developers for the platform, and now I got the upgrade pack!

So what does the upgrade pack constist of?

1. Build 7720
The first upgrade was the RTM build itself, which upgrades the software.

2. Beta cleanup
The 2nd patch, cleaned up various beta settings including the upgrade-server paths, which now makes my phone yet again available to get the retail updates everyone else gets.

3. HTC Update for Windows Phone
An HTC firmware upgrade, which enables some of the functionality from HTC, to the upgrade SDK.

I must say I am still as pleased with my Windows Phone device!
It is the best smart phone platform I have been playing around with, both as a developer and end-user! It just works!

Finally came the day I actually had time to sit down for a while and think!

It all started when my former host, unoeuro.dk, send me a friendly reminder that my webhotel was about to expire and I had to submit yet another payment, to continue receiving the same services as beforehand. Until now, they have been servicing my old domain kenman.dk with a PHP/MySQL solution and offering me DNS services for kenchristensen.dk; however the latter I moved about 6 months ago to the danish DNS host GratisDNS.

I thought to myself, instead of paying for theese services which I rarerly use, because let's face it, I never write any PHP anymore its all ASP.net, why not move host? and since I do have a Windows Server 2008r2 running several machines in a Hyper-V environment hosted on a 50/50 mbit fiber optics line, why not self host and combine all my semi-unused domains?

I have now done exactly this, had DK-Hostmaster, which is the organisation which handles .dk domains, redelegate all my domains to GratisDNS and been creating websites in IIS on one of my virtual boxes.

By doing this, I have finally acomplished my redirection issues with having kenc.dk, kenman.dk and kenchristensen point to the same blog without having to create ugly URL redirection or iFrame solutions as have been the case earlier; and I can now actually write web applications in ASP.net, utilizing the .net stack and C# which I like alot!

This step is also meant as a reboot of my blog, which I need to get started on again!

What have happened since the last post?

A LOT!

I have started at Microsoft Development Center Copenhagen, as a Student Worker Software Development Engineer, joining the Dynamics NAV Application integration team.
I started on 1st of august, and it has been an awesome ride already; starting at Microsoft is first of all a boy dream for me; secondly its a huge transformation from studying and the other companies I have been at earlier.

Microsoft is so incredibly huge (93.000+ employes) and thus startings means getting a lot of information about everything!
The first month I was fulltime, to get into things, learn my team and start exploring the NAV product, including the C/AL programming language!
The last 14 days have been parttime, twice a week, totaling aprox. 15 hours a week and I love it!

Anywho, that was the words for now!
more posts will come soon; now out to vote for the danish election and afterwards home to a good friend, watching the results and enjoying a nice meal!
